光バイオイメージングの課題である深部観察を達成するために様々なアプローチを試みる。まず色素に関して、蛍光(発光)タンパク質の長波長化、それらに伴うFRET型プローブの改良を行う。次に生体サンプルに関して、光の散乱を抑えるような操作を加える。実際の生体バイオイメージングについては、細胞周期のほかに酸化ストレスと抗酸化ストレス活性を可視化する。また、血管の内外、血管外においては細胞の内外にわたって形成される、代謝産物(ヘム代謝産物、ビタミンAの代謝産物)の濃度勾配を可視化する。
