Brillouin scattering imaging for non-contact measurement of cellular stiffness

Stiffness of cell and tissue is an important quantity which influences the mechanical interaction among multiple cells. The demand for the stiffness measurment tools has been increasing recently in the developmental biology. This study aims at establishment of a novel imaging technique using Brillouin scattering which can achieve stiffness measurment of multicellular systems with sub-cellular spatial resolution in the non-contact and non-labeling manner.
